HARTASUMA made history by delivering Malaysia’s first locally assembled passenger coaches for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) in 2003. This milestone marked the beginning of Malaysia’s local rail manufacturing capability, demonstrating the company’s expertise in rolling stock assembly while advancing technology transfer, local talent development, and the nation’s rail industry. This achievement laid the foundation for HARTASUMA’s continued growth as one of Malaysia’s leading rail solutions providers, with more than 500 rail cars delivered nationwide.
The KLAV14 and KLAV27 projects marked significant milestones in the long-standing partnership between HARTASUMA and Alstom. Awarded in 2012, the Alstom–HARTASUMA Consortium delivered 56 Light Rail Transit (LRT) cars (14 four- car trainsets) for the Kelana Jaya Line, showcasing HARTASUMA’s growing expertise in local assembly and project delivery while driving technology transfer and the localisation of Malaysia’s rail manufacturing industry. Building on this success, the RM1.72 billion KLAV27 project, awarded in 2017, saw the Consortium deliver 108 LRT cars (27 four-car trainsets). The project further expanded HARTASUMA’s manufacturing capabilities through advanced local assembly, including bogie assembly and systems integration, reinforcing our position as Malaysia’s leading rolling stock assembler.
